Jacks Point to Frankton Trail Update

Project progress and funding status on new Queenstown Trail

Having secured resource consent for the trail late last year, Queenstown Trails commenced and completed detailed design, which is now going through its final safety audit.

Fundraising for the trail for the trail was kicked off with a generous $313,000 grant from Central Lakes Trust, which was followed up with Trails CEO Mark ‘Willy’ Williams’ ‘Tour Aotearoa campaign’ which raised over $33K from community donations during his 2-week ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

Recognising the importance of the trail for relieving congestion and supporting health and wellbeing through active transport, southern corridor developers have now backed the development of the trail, with significant contributions from Darby Partners and Parkridge, with remaining funding support expected to be announced in the near future to complete the targeted construction costs. Additional commitments also include Jacks Point Golf to hold a charity golf tournament, and Parkridge to hold a charity house auction, with all proceeds contributing to any shortfall in overall project funding.

Queenstown Trails CEO Mark Williams says “The support from the community and the developers signals the importance of this vital infrastructure and the need to get it built asap. We’re so thankful for both the financial support to complete the design and construction, but also the generosity of the landowners including Mike Mee, James and Jane Paterson and Darby Partners who have granted permissions to enable the trail.”

Williams hopes the project can be tendered by the middle of 2026 once the road safety audit is signed off, with construction to commence towards the end of winter.
